My Journey as a Writer, Director, and Producer

Hello, I’m Andrew Sogamoso, a storyteller at heart. Born and raised in California, my journey into filmmaking has been shaped by both my family’s legacy and my passion for storytelling. My parents emigrated from Colombia, South America, in 1955, pursuing the American Dream—not for themselves, but for my siblings and me. As the middle child, I inherited their drive and determination, but I chose to express it through film.

My love for screenwriting began in 1999. It wasn’t long before I found myself working alongside incredible mentors like Jack Gilbert, who at the time headed the Warner Brothers Writers Workshop. Jack’s guidance was invaluable, helping me shape my voice as a screenwriter and storyteller.

Reigniting Passion and Embracing New Opportunities

In 2017, I had the opportunity to collaborate with a talented female writer/director on a feature film called Serial Beauty. I served as the executive producer and co-writer on the project, which is now available on Amazon Prime. This experience reignited my passion for filmmaking and opened the door to new opportunities. Alongside Serial Beauty, I have several short film projects in various stages of development, including Home by the Sea, The Gravity of God, The Lady of Lacrimosa, The Tempest, and XOXO My Love. My goal with these films is to see them evolve into full-length features, each one telling a unique story that resonates with audiences.

Merging Art and Business: How Finance Enriches My Filmmaking Journey

While filmmaking fuels my creativity, my professional background in finance has provided a solid foundation for my endeavors. Years spent as a corporate tax manager have sharpened my business acumen, and my recent role as CFO of High Water Films allows me to integrate this expertise with my passion for filmmaking. This blend of art and business gives me a unique perspective, enabling me to approach filmmaking with both creative vision and strategic insight.

Looking ahead, I’m excited about the future. Every project I work on is a step closer to bringing more of my stories to life. I believe in the power of film to capture the complexities of the human experience, and my goal is to continue creating films that touch people on an emotional level.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my journey. I’m excited to share more of my work with you in the future.
